Global IoT Connectivity

Oracle and Vodafone are advancing global IoT connectivity by combining Oracle’s Enterprise Communications Platform with Vodafone’s extensive Internet of Things network. This partnership promises to deliver a secure, adaptable infrastructure for businesses worldwide, enhancing Oracle’s Edge cloud services with Vodafone’s reliable IoT network covering over 180 countries.

The collaboration allows Oracle’s ECP to connect a range of IoT devices to cloud services via Oracle’s Edge gateway or through WiFi and 4G/5G. This integration offers smooth support across public and private networks, enabling real-time device communication. Vodafone’s Global SIM provides Oracle’s customers with consistent connectivity that meets compliance standards globally, an essential benefit for businesses operating in diverse regions.

Erik Brenneis, Vodafone Business IoT CEO, commented on the partnership: “We’re excited to announce the next step in our partnership with Oracle – providing reliable and secure connectivity to its Enterprise Communications Platform customers. This collaboration will help customers expand their operations and accelerate on a global scale with compliant connectivity in over 180 countries worldwide.”

Vodafone’s IoT SIM lineup is tailored to a range of industrial needs, from durable standard SIMs used in handheld devices to automotive-grade options built to work in extreme environments. Meanwhile, Oracle’s ECP complements these offerings with powerful features like video streaming, edge processing, and secure data handling, which provide robust connectivity for complex operations.

According to Andrew Morawski, Oracle’s EVP of Communications, “Connectivity is the heart of industry transformation. Using drones to inspect construction jobsites, remote monitoring the health of a patient, paying the bill tableside at a restaurant – none of these scenarios are possible without the wireless connectivity and industry-specific applications working in harmony.”

For its network, Vodafone has focused on LTE technology to drive low-power, wide-area (LPWA) connectivity, prioritizing LTE-M and NB-IoT standards over options like LoRaWAN. This focus on LTE aligns well with the rapidly growing IoT world, making it easier to roll out agile and fully integrated applications across diverse industries.

🔍 A recent report by Gartner highlights that IoT connectivity will be a significant driver for enterprise innovation, particularly in manufacturing and logistics. According to their analysis, the global IoT market is on track to reach $1.5 trillion by 2030, a 20% increase from current projections. Meanwhile, Vodafone’s 2023 IoT Spotlight report indicates that companies using IoT solutions achieve an average 30% improvement in operational efficiency, showcasing IoT’s transformative impact on industries ranging from healthcare to energy management.
