In a progressive step towards unified data standards for smart lighting, the DALI Alliance (DALI), the TALQ Consortium (TALQ), and the Zhaga Consortium (Zhaga) have formalized a new collaboration. This alliance aims to streamline data integration in smart street lighting systems, providing interoperable solutions that ease communication across diverse lighting networks and devices in smart city applications.
DALI specializes in developing digital lighting control specifications under the IEC 62386 standard, which powers well-known programs like DALI-2, D4i, and DALI+. These certifications ensure compatibility and seamless data exchange, supporting reliable and interconnected lighting components.
TALQ has set a global standard for outdoor lighting by establishing a standardized interface protocol for varied outdoor device networks. Initially focused on street lighting, TALQ’s Smart City Protocol has since expanded to encompass waste management, smart parking, traffic, and environmental monitoring. This extension allows cities to integrate consistent data across multiple applications, enhancing efficiency in central management systems.
Zhaga, a key player in defining specifications for LED lighting interfaces, fosters compatibility across manufacturers, enabling flexible, interoperable LED components that spark industry innovation. With certifications ensuring alignment among LED light engines and sensor modules, Zhaga has become a cornerstone in standardized smart lighting.
Together, DALI, TALQ, and Zhaga aim to align data communication and control across smart lighting applications. This collaboration sets the stage for a unified data approach, aiming to improve the functionality, security, and longevity of outdoor lighting systems. As part of this shared vision, the three organizations will work on integrated solutions that reflect the needs and control requirements of smart lighting infrastructures.
Paul Drosihn, General Manager of the DALI Alliance, emphasized the impact of the alliance:
“By working closely with Zhaga and TALQ, we’re fostering a future-proof ecosystem that enhances supply chain longevity, security, and the right to repair – building resilient infrastructure that supports smart cities for the long term.”
TALQ’s Secretary General, Simon Dunkley, added,
“For us, it is a logical step to work together with DALI and Zhaga. Not only do we share the same goals, but the composition of the member companies also has a large overlap. The better the standards in the street lighting environment become, the more sustainable and future-proof the investment decisions of cities and operators will be.”
Heinrich Thye, Secretary General of Zhaga, shared his enthusiasm:
“By combining our efforts and expertise, we are working towards a more interconnected and efficient future for smart lighting. This partnership ensures that we are all moving in the same direction, uniting our ambitions and promoting real-world interoperability.”
This collaboration reflects a global commitment to enhancing smart city lighting standards, simplifying integration for manufacturers and urban planners alike, and helping create sustainable, adaptable infrastructure in cities worldwide.
